My name is Serena Rakha
and I am an NHS GP.
I have worked in the NHS for a decade so far after graduating from Imperial College London in 2010.
Prior to this, I worked in cancer research looking into how our diet can influence and slow down cancer development.
It fascinated me that, although receiving a diagnosis of any kind is tough, the power we have over our daily habit really plays a huge part in how we experience a condition.
After finishing medical school, I was diagnosed with a long term condition. I blamed my unhealthy habits for putting me in this position. Of course this was the wrong way to think.
I knew that I needed to be in better health and even as a doctor I was a bit clueless about the best ways to improve my health.
I promised myself I would change so I could do my job until retirement age and look after my family and friends along the way. My diagnosis gave me a wake up call; I wanted to do so many things in my life but worried I wouldn’t be able to do this if I remained in my current state of ill health.
So I started out on my journey, setting out small healthy habits.
It took 8 years and I wish I had a health coach at the time, it would have taken me less time to reach goals without trying fad diets and supplements.
I started to work in General Practice in 2016 and really enjoyed spending time with patients who were ready to make changes to their health. We know through the pandemic, factors such as our weight, sleeping habits, exercise and nutrition affects our recovery from Covid-19; the same goes for a lot of other conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
I am keen to work with people that are ready to make change but need support and accountability along the way.
I will design a 12 week programme which is tailored made to suit your needs and to stretch you at the right times in order for us to reach your goals. All the small steps we take together will be in alignment with your health needs.
I want you to the finish the programme in better health, having habits which are sustainable without you having to sacrifice your other commitments.
