Self care and lifestyle change as a University Student
I’m a final year mature PhD student who has stressful days at University and I struggle with my body weight.
I had previously tried numerous diets and exercise regimes to lose weight and had limited success. I decided I wanted to try health coaching to see if I could make changes in my lifestyle that had a positive impact on my life.
My goals for 90 days were to improve my energy levels and weight loss, this was important for me as I’m prone to diabetes and cardiovascular disease. I wanted to make changes in my lifestyle that would significantly reduce my risk of both diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from each session, I started my journey by having honest conversations with my health coach and why I wanted to have better energy levels and lose weight. These conversations were emotional but have really opened me up and helped build my confidence. Each week I would discuss with my health coach my general food habits and life style, together we would set small achievable goals that led me to making better: food choices, mental health and improving my overall lifestyle.
I’ve made small changes in my eating habits which has improved my overall energy levels.
I spend more time on my self-care which has helped me relax more. I’ve re-introduced small but effective exercises daily exercises that can help my movement. I now recognise and celebrate my achievements no matter how big and small these are. These small changes have helped me immensely and have now led to permanent changes, as a result, my energy levels, weight loss and has given me a new found confidence.
